FULL FRAME MIRRORLESSCanon EOS R vs Nikon Z7

The other Day I had a great Live Webinar with my DPinsiders members...

If you are NOT a Dpinsiders member or on the List Yet... why not? 😉 - you can Sign Up for Upcoming Enrollment HERE - zero obligation, you will get the scoop as soon as I announce doors are OPEN!

Anyways, back to the call.

I spent a good portion of the call going through my recent tests with 2 Full Frame Mirrorless Cameras - Canon EOS R and Nikon Z7.

The 30.3 MP Canon EOS R produced some amazing shots especially paired with the dedicated Canon RF 85mm f/1.2L lens. The 45.7 MP sensor of the Nikon Z7 produced incredible details (as you can see in the video above using the dedicated NIKKOR Z 24-70 f/4 S lens. In the video I mention the Nikon Z7 being around 40 MP but it is a fair bit more at 45.7 MP.

My Dream Camera of the Future?

HOT OFF THE PRESS: After doing this Webinar, Canon announced the Canon EOS R5 !!!- this upcoming camera will address a bunch of the shortcomings (cons) I mentioned in the video above. Official announcement HERE The Canon EOS R5 will have:

  • Updated Sensor - Likely in the 40 MP plus range (*speculation* in a hopeful way!)
  • IBIS - In Body Image Stabilization - this is HUGE and a first for high end Canons
  • 20 fps electronic shutter and 12 fps mechanical shutter shooting
  • 8K Video
  • Dual Card Slots

More news to come but already Canon is leveling the playing field for High End Full Frame Mirrorless cameras and will easily compete with the Nikon Z7 as well as top of the range Sony A7Riii (likely to be next on my list for test driving because fo the reduced price now), Sony A7Riv (61 MP sensor!!) and Sony A9ii (fastest sensor but not High resolution - ONLY $4.5K for this model!).

I am Really eager to get my hands on the New Canon EOS R5... this could be my Future Camera 🙂
